Steampunk at Wooster Street Social Club

Saturday, November 12th proved to be the successful launch of Wooster Street Social Club’s Mobilis in Mobili: An Exhibition of Steampunk Art and Appliance – and New York Body Art/VAR magazine was on the scene, scoping out our future location for VAR magazine’s launch party on the weekend of January 12th-15th.

Steampunk, a subculture and an artistic movement that incorporates Victorian Era steam power innovations with a modern-day twist (think “The Wild Wild West” – the 1999 Will Smith flick – but a lot cooler – and everything handmade by a steampunk artist) was in full swing. With art listed for sale on all the walls of the gallery/shop, and partygoers dressed the part – steampunk culture was celebrated through and through all night long.

And with performances by the band Frenchy and the Punk, a showcase of steampunk burlesque dancers, and tattooing by the WSSC crew carrying on all night long – all the while free booze from sponsors Bulldog gin pouring consistently and constantly – Wooster Street Social Club was surely the place to be last Saturday night.

This event was merely the launch, so don’t be too bummed if you missed out. The exhibit will run at the WSSC studio ‘til January 12th, 2012 – where all pieces are listed for sale. As for the tattooing – that gig runs indefinitely. Email the guys and gals at Wooster Street Social Club to submit an application for your freshy new tat today: [email protected]
